Benefits of Membership

Serene Lakes Property and Owners Association (SLPOA) is committed to the stewardship and enjoyment of our unique natural surroundings while fostering a sense of community engagement through families, friendships and future generations. 


As a member you not only benefit from these efforts but you also contribute to them. See the benefit highlights below.


Lake Activities and Community Events 

SLPOA volunteers put on multiple activities each year: Sand Fling (spring beach opening), Independence Day Celebrations, Cabin Tour, Serene Lakes Days, Annual Labor Day BBQ and Chili Cook-off, Beach Clean-up (closing the beach for winter), Regattas and the various guided hikes. In addition, there are community potlucks and informal activities led by SLPOA members.


We also have a Kids club and kid-focus activities include Movie Nights and Snow Sculpture contests.



 

Lot 1 & Beach Facilities 

"Lot 1" is the area on Serene Road at the south end of the lakes. The facilities on Lot 1 are built and maintained by hard working SLPOA volunteers and paid for with SLPOA member dues. The facilities include:

Boat Storage

SLPOA provides boat storage (defined as non-motorized kayaks, canoes, SUPs and small sailboats) at several Boat Storage and Dock Locations around Lake Serena (north side) and Lake Dulzura (south side). Boats can be locked and stored seasonally at Bales, Swiss Court, and Lot 1--which is exclusive to SLPOA members. Temporary Storage is also available at specific locations at Allen, Beacon, Castle and Dulzura. All boast must have a visible valid sticker (distributed upon registration each year.) Membership provides early notification of when registration is open.

 

 


Dog-Friendly Environment 

We are a dog-friendly community, but that said we highly encourage dogs to be on leash for safety and respect of our community. Please always clean-up after your dog and utilize all dog waste stations (managed by volunteers), or deposit your poop bags in your own trash can. 

There is a Dog Park at the north end of Lake Serena. Dogs are not allowed at the beach, but allowed on the grass areas surrounding Lot 1 only on leash.

 


Community Safety 

One of the most important things SLPOA does is to address the community's safety concerns. There is a dedicated team of volunteers who focus building relationships with local agencies such as the Truckee Fire Department and Placer County to promote safety in our community which includes defensible space, remove underbrush and help fund good forest management. We provide free chipping to cabin owners and lot owners to make it easier to reduce the fire danger around each property. Our efforts have earned a Fire Wise Community designation. We also support fire safety planning and education.


We are responsible for purchasing supplemental speed limit signs, replacing broken docks and collecting and managing data on propane tanks.

 


Information Sharing 


We have compiled and made available on our website a wealth of information to assist cabin owners. From recommendations to minimize light at night, to lists of companies that provide snow removal and other services, to guidelines for propane tanks, we have made it a little easier to own a cabin in Serene Lakes. 




 Newsletters 

Published six times a year, the Newsletter contains the President's letter, reporting on current events and news, articles by contributors to the Newsletter on a variety of topics, contact information for SLPOA and area attractions. The Newsletter is available online to SLPOA members.


Website 

Membership provides full access to the SLPOA website including Photo Albums (create your own album), Articles, Committee lists, Event Calendar (including Member Only Events), Frequently Asked Questions, a Document Library (containing Minutes, Governing Documents, Financials, and Newsletter archives), Membership Directory, News (including Member Only news articles), Surveys and Online Voting, and Volunteering opportunities.

 


Stocking the Lake 

SLPOA membership funds go toward stocking the lake each year simply for the enjoyment of catch-and-release fishing (fishing license required and not supplied by SLPOA). Stocking the lake also brings benefits of seeing wildlife like bald eagles and lake otters who make it their summer homes.
