Propane Price Data Collection Project
SLPOA is starting a project to collect and publish data about propane prices on Donner Summit. To that end a data collection page has been added to the site. It asks for:
· Date of service (when your tank was filled)
· Your community (e.g., Norden, Plavada, Soda Springs, etc.)
· Your supplier
· The price you paid per gallon
· And, optionally, whether there was a service fee for the delivery in addition to the cost of the propane
Weekly, we will take the data you have provided and create a spreadsheet that summarizes that week's prices by community. The data will include:
· Community
· Supplier
· Number of records
· High price per gallon
· Low price per gallon
· Average price per gallon

SLPOA Board Issues Letter of Thanks
January 23, 2012
Re: Results of the Sierra Lakes County Water
District sewer assessment election
Dear SLPOA members,
On behalf of the SLPOA Board of Directors,
thank you to our community for their
positive vote in favor of the Water
District’s sewer plant assessment. We
believe the community’s decision was correct
given the circumstances that we face.
The Water Board counted the ballots on
January 14, 2012 and almost 85% of our
community supported the decision to move
forward with the assessment. Based on
parcels, 555 parcels voted yes and 101 voted
no. Yes votes represented $5.1 million of
the financial obligation and no votes
represented $ .9 million of the assessment
costs.
The Water District will notify all property
owners regarding payment selection---a
single payment or payments over a thirty
year period---as soon as they are able to
complete the financial arrangements for
construction loans. Due to numerous
decisions that have to be made regarding
funding options and the potential of loan
support from the US Department of
Agriculture, the timeline for final funding
determinations is not known at this time.
The SLPOA Board will continue to work
closely with the Water District Board as the
financing and construction decisions unfold
and will keep the community informed as it
seems appropriate. Up-to-date Water Board
actions can be found on their web page at
http://www.slcwd.org/
Again, thank you for your confidence in the
decisions of your SLPOA and Water District
Board of Directors.
Best Regards,
Kenneth Hall
President, SLPOA
Help with the Propane Project
George Lamson and Linda Cashion have volunteered to assemble information on the locations of propane tanks in Serene Lakes for the exclusive use of the fire department and Emergency Management folks. In the event of another snowfall like last year's first responders can save time, effort and perhaps property and lives if they can quickly identify the location of propane tanks. We are also asking for the name of your propane vendor and whatever contact information you'd like to provide so the fire department can quickly get in touch with you. It is in your own best interest to assist in the compilation of the data.
We sent out an e-mail blast asking for that information and providing an e-mail address to send it to. We got responses from about 20% of the SLPOA members. A big "Thank You!" goes to those that responded already.
For those who haven't already responded George has prepared an online form to make it a little easier to provide the information. Please click on the link below to display the form and reply. The link takes you to a secure location and encrypts your information using SSL (Secure Sockets Layer).

Cautions on Propane Tank Installations
Bill Quesnel at Sierra Lakes County Water District has issued a letter regarding propane tank installations and piping refits. The letter is here.
Royal Gorge Property to go on Sale
It is such
exciting news.
As a result of the Royal Gorge loan default,
and on request of the bank, the Court
appointed a receiver for the RG Corporation
properties. The receiver has responsibility
to "preserve and maintain" the properties
until the loan default has been cured or the
property is otherwise sold. The receiver was
appointed on August 2nd and a 45 day period
was established to resolve the default. The
45 days expired this last weekend.
In the last 48 hours the bank determined
that it would not extend forbearance period
and Kurt Syme did not step forward to cure
the loan. The property will now go on sale.
Smile
. It
has been a long, long road. You have every
right to be exited and satisfied that our
very unique community has the opportunity to
be preserved.
We now start a new Serene Lake chapter to
ensure that our community is preserved for
us and future generations. We anticipate the
brokerage division of the receiver
will---after their due diligence and the
development of a prospectus---put the
property up for sale. We anticipate the sale
will be for the entire 3500 acres including
Summit Station, the Royal Gorge trails and
Rainbow Lodge. During the sale period the
receiver will continue to operate and keep
open the Royal Gorge Cross Country Ski
resort.
We are working closely with the Donner
Summit Community groups and the Truckee
Donner Land Trust and we look forward to a
positive announcement sometime during the
next several months. Yes, we do anticipate a
future fund raising campaign---but, for now,
enjoy. It is a wonderful Indian Summer and
we couldn't be more excited about the months
ahead.
Thank you is especially appropriate to Bill
Oudegeest and Cliff Busby for their
exceptional leadership and preservation
commitment over these last six years. I
doubt that we would have been this
successful without their consistent
contributions.
Best Regards,
Ken Hall, President, SLPOA
