Vini, Vidi, Vino

We certainly came, saw, and drank. Over 40 people attended. The first ever wine tasting event for the SLCC was a success. This success would not have been possible without our hosts Dave and Marsha Lose. If there's anything that we learned from our wine hosts, taste is in the eye, or is that taste buds, of the beholder. As Dave Lose would say, "If it taste good, it is good", what a wonderful concept. Tell that to your snippy sommeliers when you're out on the town for a fabulous dinner.

Our special guests were Louis and Helaine Foppiano, owners and proprietors of Foppiano wineries. Louis and Helaine are not only entertaining, but also extremely knowledgeable of wines. Louis with his abundant technical knowledge of various wine molds (yum, yum), and Helaine with her wonderful trivia questions and answers. For example, did you know the metallic seal on the wine bottle was to prevent animals (i.e., mice) from eating the cork and having their own little wine tasting? Or that the screw top bottles and plastic corks will be the way of the future, not because it's easy for the consumer, but cork trees are no longer plentiful. Who knew Thunderbird wine was ahead of its time.

As tradition dictates, we started with the white wines and gradually proceeded to the dark rich reds. And, for dessert, we had port. We must not forget the food everyone brought. We had such an extensive variety that there was no reason to go out to dinner after the demo. Special thanks to the attendees that brought goodies.

Paul Raymore, our Sierra Sun reporter apologizes that he was not able to attend. His photographer was called to cover the Donner Lake fire and was also unable to attend. Paul would, however, like to push out the article about our cooking club to next month. He will be attending our 11/15 SLCC that Patty Daffurn will be hosting. Be on the lookout for the upcoming invitation.

As always, I'd like to thank our wonderful hosts. Positive feedback has been non-stop. We now have well over 100 active SLCC members. A suggestion was made that we make "wine-tasting" a semi or annual event.

Remember, "It's not how well you can cook, but how well you can execute!"
